What to Expect from LASIK
In the past, patients who were burdened by vision impairment were greatly limited in corrective options. Eyeglasses and contact lenses were the only methods available for correcting vision. While these methods provide patients with good visual results, they are results that rely entirely on the corrective lenses - in other words, lose your eyeglasses and lose your improved vision.
Advances in technology now allow patients the opportunity to undergo LASIK surgery, a permanent and convenient vision correction solution. At Deen-Gross Eye Centers in Merrillville, eye care is our top priority. When patients are good candidates for LASIK surgery, we believe it is the best option for correcting vision and providing patients with permanent results that free them from the hassles of eyeglasses or contact lenses.
For some of our patients in Merrillville, LASIK seems too good to be true. Patients may be hesitant to undergo the procedure because they find it hard to believe that a short procedure like LASIK, which typically takes just 15 minutes, can really provide such dramatic results. So, what results can a patient expect from LASIK surgery? While it may be hard for our Merrillville patients to believe at first, LASIK results really do drastically reduce, and in most cases, completely eliminate the need for any other form of corrective eye wear. LASIK surgery has continually proven to provide successful results for our patients. Typically, a patient undergoing LASIK at Deen-Gross Eye Centers can expect the following from LASIK surgery:
- Immediate results: The majority of patients report an immediate improvement in vision. Even the first day after surgery, most patients already notice the difference in their vision. These results continue to improve as the eyes heal, with the average patient obtaining optimal vision within two months after surgery.
- Dramatic results: The average LASIK procedure will result in patients achieving 20/20 vision or better. This is true for patients who have dealt with the effects of nearsightedness, farsightedness, or astigmatism before LASIK.
- Decreased or eliminated dependence on corrective eyewear: With the significant improvement that LASIK can make to a patient’s vision, most find that they are able to completely eliminate the use of corrective eye wear. The small percentages of patients who do still use their glasses typically only do so in the case of reading.
- Freedom: Without the need for glasses or contact lenses, patients are free from the fear of losing their glasses (and their sight) and free from the costs and responsibility of caring for glasses and contact lenses.
With the overwhelming evidence of successful LASIK cases, it is not surprising that so many of our patients seek information on this procedure. Unfortunately, LASIK is not the right treatment for all of our patients. It is important to see one of our eye doctors at Deen-Gross Eye Centers to determine if LASIK is right for you.
